8th Grade Social!

On Mar. 4, 8th graders across the Arcadia School District had the opportunity to attend an exciting event to learn about orchestra life in high school. Members of Orchestra Council (OC) and director Ms. Chen provided fun activities, delicious food, and lots of insight as to why orchestra is the best elective on campus!

After some quick introductions and mingling, Ms. Chen took to the stage to talk about how orchestra works in high school, including things like trips, scheduling, auditions, and much more. The 8th graders were impressed by how many leadership opportunities were available and how much fun they were going to have in this class!

Shortly after, the first game, Mingle, began. OC would announce a number and a category (i.e. four people that play the same instrument) and the 8th graders must quickly form themselves into groups before time ran out. This was an amazing way for students to get to know each other and find out more about one another while socializing. Then, the floor was set up for a rowdy game of Musical Chairs, which was especially competitive as four or five chairs were being taken out each round. The 8th graders scooted and scrambled to find chairs before it was too late, but there was only one winner in the end.

Students took a break from games and enjoyed some delicious pizza, chips, drinks, and cookies. As they talked and relaxed, the final game of Jeopardy began. Categories were shown on the board and the 8th graders formed teams to compete against each other in a musical/Arcadia Orchestras trivia battle! While some groups scored point after point, others struggled to come up with the right answer.

This social was a brilliant opportunity for Arcadia’s 8th graders to meet others from different middle schools, learn about the orchestra program, and socialize and eat with friends. If events like these catch your eye, make sure to join orchestra next year!
